With an old rabbit-ear RCA antenna, I'm able to pick up 2 of the 4 major stations(NBC & Fox); with this garbage, I was unable to pick up any of the major stations what-so-ever.
The Quantum HDTV antenna worked some time but the signal wood come and go the and lose the signal often. The tower is only less than 5 miles away in Oveto florida and i'm in Winter Park it seems this signal doesn't penatrate walls or can be blocked by trees ect. I went to Best Buy and talked to the sales person He tried all the indoor antennas they have and he lives in Oveto Florida where the tower is and none of them could hold a signal i finaly got an outdoor antenna an "Antenna Direct Clear stream C4" good for 65 miles it works well i get 93% steady it even worked well inside without a signal booster $60 to $120 search for sales
There are 3 VHF HDTV channels in the area (Seattle) and according to tvfool.com they are at or above the signal strength of some of the UHF channels I can pick up with this antenna, but I can't get any of them at all (the TV doesn't have a signal meter so I don't know if they are just weak or completely unreceived). I am also using a Samsung LCD with the built-in ATSC tuner (as the tuner used could affect results). The UHF reception seems mediocre but I don't have another indoor antenna to compare to (maybe I should have bought 2 or more and taken the worst ones back). FYI this is post-digital transition so I am testing with completely digital channels at their final strength/configuration/location. Extending the mast or changing its angle does nothing. This thing is going back to the store. I certainly would expect better performance from a $40 amplified antenna vs a $10-20 passive unit. It also seems more sensitive to direction than advertised.I found the telescoping VHF mast antenna in the center (that little nub hiding in the picture) is completely useless. I had good luck with an Antenna's Direct ClearStream4 at a cabin, so I might try their ClearStream1 Convertible (for tabletop use). I really need an indoor that works because the TV is moved between 2 rooms, and I should have adequate signal level for 2nd floor indoor use.
I get good recption when I can find the right spot where the antenna needs to be. I have bought 2 GE HDTV antennas. I believe they work as well as any antenna. Thanks Amazon for supplying us with so much inventory to choose from. You make it very easy to shop.
I had chosen a location near a window in my garage and placed all antennae there and compared their performance. RCA Ant 5375.
If I was giving a ranking for the five, it would be as follows:1. I recently tried five different antennae and found the Philips MANT940 to be the best of all five.I compared it to the GE 24775, the RCA ANT537, Philips SDV2750, and the RCA ANT 1450.
GE 247754. Philips MANT9402.
RCA ANT 14503. Philips SDV2750By using the signal strength meter on my HDTV, the MANT940 was the only one to receive at least 80% on all relevant stations.
The top three I listed above all performed adequately, so I moved them to a place where I would mount the MANT940 between two windows.Upon comparison of those three in the best window location, I found that the MANT940 had most channels in the 90-94% range and one channel at 80% while most of the channels on the other two were in the mid 70's to mid 80's.I am in northern suburb of Atlanta, GA and found that the only channel that I wanted that no antenna would pick up is the NBC affiliate, WXIA.
